Where Do I Buy?


Each of us has our own personal favourites, however, all of us look for certain things...

Proximity, for example- we want to stay close to where we work. I know a friend who travels all the way from Sanjay Nagar (north Bangalore) to Infosys in electronics city (Hosur road)- he spends ~4 hours every day getting driven in his car, inhaling the polluted fumes,  and wasting quality time, that could have been spent in much better pursuits.. And remember, don’t forget to differentiate between the time taken, and the distance travelled. You can stay in city limits, and still find your commute to work stretching endlessly...

Prices : Bangalore offers prices  at every price point upto Rs 45,000 per square-foot and more. The question is- where do you put your peg? And is it worthwhile investing inside the city, for instance, in the Central Business District (MG Road, whereabouts), when you know that the city’s energy is shifting outwards?

Access to Services is another, though it tends to be different for different people. For example, it is important to be near quality healthcare in case of emergencies (less than 10 minutes), but we can still afford to be 20 minutes from supermarkets which also double up as entertainment centres, as long as we have small grocery stores nearby, because we plan those trips.  Schools are slowly but surely shifting to outside of the city anyway, so the typical school commute will be 30 minutes at the least.

Greenery: A subtle, but an extremely important point, as it is proven that greenery soothes you, relaxes, and reduces that blood pressure, or the stresses you face in your hacks through the corporate jungle. But greenery does not mean you live in the middle of the jungle, assuming there are going to be many left in this maddening rush to decimate jungles. It has to be balanced with the other priorities you have...
